How to get referred to a Financial Adviser

As a member of the YX Employee Benefit Fund, you may sometimes need help beyond what your fund covers — such as planning for retirement, reviewing your life cover, or managing finances after a big life event. When that happens, you can request a referral to an accredited financial adviser.

Here’s how the process works:

Step 1: Start the Chat

  • Go to the Ask & Chat tab on the YX Fund page.
  • Type: “Please refer me.”
  • MChat will ask what event led to your request. This context helps the adviser prepare for your needs.

Examples of life events include:

  • Marriage or divorce
  • New child or dependent
  • New job, retrenchment, or retirement
  • Any situation that requires financial services beyond the fund

Step 2: Adviser Matching

  • If you already have a financial adviser, your request will be routed to them.
  • If not, the system will suggest a suitable adviser based on your region, language preference, and your needs.
  • You’ll be matched with a licensed adviser who is qualified to help.

Step 3: Compliance & Consent

Before your referral can be finalised, a few checks are required:

  • FICA (KYC validation): You may need to confirm your ID, address, and source of funds.
  • FAIS (Licensing): Only advisers with the correct license categories will be eligible.
  • POPIA (Privacy): You’ll see a consent notice explaining what information is shared and why. You must opt in.
  • ECTA (Digital consent): Your electronic consent is legally binding and stored securely.

Step 4: Referral Sent

Once checks are complete:

  • A referral ticket is created with your details, event type, and adviser info.
  • The adviser receives your referral securely.
  • You’ll get a confirmation message:
    “Your referral has been sent to [Adviser Name, FSP No. XXXXX]. You will be contacted soon. You can track your referral here.”

You can also download your referral confirmation and consent proof as a PDF for your records.

Step 5: Recordkeeping & Follow-up

  • All steps (life event, checks, consent, referral) are logged for compliance.
  • Records are kept securely for at least 5 years.
  • You’ll be contacted by your adviser to set up the first conversation.
