Group life vs. funeral cover: know the difference
Many employees confuse these two policies. Here’s the breakdown:
Group life cover
- Pays out 3–5x salary
- Covers natural & accidental death
- Beneficiaries can be anyone
Funeral cover
- Pays fixed amount (e.g., R50 000)
- Covers death + some funeral costs
- Usually restricted to family members
When to top up: If group life is insufficient for debts (e.g., a home loan), buy a separate policy.
