Milo Session #05: Journaling for Emotional Clarity

Milo Session #05: Journaling for Emotional Clarity

When the world is noisy and fast-paced, journaling creates a quiet pocket to just be. For leaders, it’s not only therapeutic—it’s strategic. Writing helps untangle emotional knots, clarify decisions, and access insight that’s often buried beneath busyness.

🖋️ Why Journaling Works

  • Externalizes thoughts so they stop looping in your head
  • Helps you name feelings instead of being consumed by them
  • Creates space between stimulus and response
  • Promotes creativity, self-trust, and emotional processing

No need to write perfectly. No grammar checks. Just honesty.

🧭 Journaling Frameworks to Try

1. The 3-Line Daily Journal

  • Today, I noticed…
  • I felt…
  • I need…

2. Situation – Emotion – Learning – Action (SELA)

  • What happened?
  • What did I feel?
  • What did I learn about myself?
  • What do I want to do next time?

🪞Prompts for Emotional Clarity

  • “What emotion keeps showing up lately—and what might it be trying to tell me?”
  • “Where in my leadership do I feel most misaligned right now?”
  • “What’s one thing I haven’t said out loud—but need to write down?”
  • “How do I want to feel going into next week? What needs to shift for that to happen?”

🕯️ Tips for Getting Started

  • Choose a quiet space or time of day you can stick to
  • Use pen and paper if possible—digital is fine, but handwriting slows you down
  • Set a timer for 5–15 minutes. No pressure to write more than that
  • Let go of “doing it right”—just begin

🛋️ Your journal is your private leadership lab. A mirror. A sounding board. A safe place to reset.
