Milo Session #08: Leading With Self-Compassion

Milo Session #08: Leading With Self-Compassion

💖 What Is Self-Compassion (And Why Leaders Need It)

Being kind to others is easy when you’re leading with a full cup. But when the pressure mounts, we often become harsh with ourselves.

Self-compassion is not about making excuses. It’s about offering yourself the same patience, support, and grace you extend to others.

Because here’s the truth:

You can’t sustainably lead others if you’re constantly berating yourself.

✨ Three Ways to Practice Self-Compassion Daily

Pause the inner critic. Notice your inner dialogue. Would you say those words to a friend?

Name your feelings without judgment. Say: “I’m feeling overwhelmed, and that’s okay right now.”

Ask: What do I need right now? Not tomorrow. Not next quarter. Right now.

Even if the answer is “just a deep breath,” it matters.

✊ When You Make a Mistake

Try this 3-step reset:

  • Acknowledge it. "I didn’t get that right."
  • Affirm your intention. "I was trying to help."
  • Adjust without shame. "Here’s how I’ll try differently next time."

📓 Journal This

  • What’s one recent moment where I judged myself too harshly?
  • How would I reframe that moment if I were talking to a trusted friend?
  • What are three kind things I can say to myself today?

💡 Self-Compassion Doesn't Make You Soft

It makes you stronger — because you’re not wasting energy on shame or guilt. You’re moving forward with clarity and care.

Leadership that includes self-compassion sets the tone for teams to feel psychologically safe, courageous, and real.
